We're going green to keep our planet clean

We strive to reduce pollution to its lowest practicable level and are committed to comply with all relevant legislation and associated guidance.

We monitor and manage environmental performance in our operations through environmental risk assessments. Operating procedures and controls are developed through this process to reduce any risks to the environment to the lowest level practicable. Reviews of environmental performance are built in to regular health and safety inspections and audits.

All waste represents an inefficient use of resources and energy. We try to reduce the quantity of waste generated and regularly review routes whereby waste can be eliminated or reduced or recycled.

The Company promotes the efficient use of energy by its staff through the use of energy surveys, improved housekeeping, control of processes and the efficient use of service engineer resources.

Our staff, when planning work will try to keep all potential impacts on the environment such as noise, dust, smells or fumes to a minimum.

All wastes will be disposed of responsibly. Our staff will ensure they comply with all the waste disposal requirements.

The company believes that awareness and knowledge of environmental issues is an important part of the process of effective environmental management. Therefore it is our objective to provide suitable information and training to our employees to ensure they are able to make informed decisions.

Green Tourism

Awaiting Grading

We joined Green Tourism, a sustainability certification programme and are currently waiting on their grading. Green Tourism promotes greener ways for businesses and organisations to operate by offering guidance on the following:

  • Ethical buying
  • Staying local & seasonal
  • Minimising food miles
  • Promoting biodiversity
  • Adopting a smart, sustainable outlook from top to bottom

What we are doing

Reducing our impact on the environment

Guest Communication

We share our sustainability journey with our guests, corporate companies and agents. We also ask for their support and this is communicated to our guests on the Pre-arrival information they receive.

Maintenance & cleaning

We have a procedure in place with the housekeeping team to ensure they turn lights and heating off when the apartments are not in use.

Growing Our Own

We have herbs in the courtyard for all guests to use whilst cooking, our home grown greens.

Our People

All our staff at PREMIER SUITES Reading are trained and knowledgeable in Green Tourism and sustainability goals.

Transportation

We have 6 bikes which are free of charge for our guests and staff to use. We have bike racks in the garage area. We also have an electric charging point in the garage. We encourage our guests to use public transport. Our corporate guests can use the free business park bus to Green Park and TVP and the train to Arlington Business park.

Operations

We use Simply Waste Solutions to ensure none of our rubbish ends up in landfill. All our rubbish is recycled when it gets to the depot, so guests don’t need to separate plastics, cardboard or glass beforehand. Our staff ensure they comply with all the waste disposal requirements. Staff try to minimise printing and recycle paper where possible . Leaflets and information is emailed to guests rather than handed out on arrival. 

We encourage guests to fill their own water bottles when using the water machine in reception and also for the coffee machine. We use wooden stirrers for our coffee machine in reception and do not provide straws. We have large shampoo and soap dispensers in the bathrooms that are refilled. 

Our Building

Home away from home

To conserve electricity we have sensor lighting in corridors and encourage guests to turn off lights when leaving the apartment, to open windows rather than use fans and to turn heating down or off when not required.

Team work

At PREMIER SUITES Reading we support the local fruit and vegetable market in the town  when buying food hampers for our long stay guests .

Charity Events

Get involved

We support the Trussell Trust food bank. We have a food collection box in reception which our guests donate to. This is communicated to our customers at check in and on a Pre-arrival document. We like to get involved in raising money with ASAP for Hospitality Action which involves being sponsored for fitness challenges. We also supported Ukraine by raising money through our Just Giving Page.

We support “Beyond the Moon”, an organisation that looks after family holidays for families that have (terminally) ill children or a child with physical disabilities. Their situation often implies that they need extra care during a vacation which often is very expensive. Beyond the moon raises funds to support those families. 

Community Work

Working together

We are currently working with the council to replant the outdoor space in front of our building . Housekeeping ensure the outdoor space surrounding our building is kept litter free.
