Sustainability At PREMIER SUITES Bristol

The UK is getting better at considering our environment and sustainability. We have reduced UK emissions by more than 40% since 1990 and more recently in 2019, we became the first major economy in the world to pass laws to end our contribution to global warming by 2050. There is still a long way to go however, and we all have our part to play in reducing our carbon footprint. PREMIER SUITES Bristol are doing our part to reduce our impact, making small changes that will add up to a big difference. We encourage staff and guests to do their part to reduce their carbon footprint and our accommodation in Bristol will do ours.

Green Tourism

We knew taking on a challenge as big as becoming more environmentally friendly accommodation in Bristol might be too big for us alone. As part of improving our overall sustainability score, we’ve enlisted the help of Green Tourism, a dedicated sustainability certification programme, especially for the tourism sector. They offer advice on all aspects of the journey from reducing water usage and waste to best practice and changing our operations to best suit our journey. We’re working on improving our bioversity, reducing waste and we only use certified suppliers to ensure the lowest food miles. We’re working hard to improve our score and uphold high standards across the board.

Small Changes

We’ve put in place improved processes and procedures to improve our sustainability score and improve our guest experience. These small changes, taken every day by guests and staff, add up to a big change – a reduction of waste and energy across our serviced apartments. Some of these changes include;
Monitors and reviews of our environmental performance are built in to regular health and safety inspections and audits. These are undertaken by dedicated staff members regularly and we often make changes to improve our processes.

We try to reduce the quantity of waste generated and regularly review routes whereby waste can be eliminated, reduced or recycled. All waste produced will be disposed of responsibly. Our staff will ensure they comply with all the waste disposal requirements.

We educate our staff and guests about our plans so they can help us along the way. Our staff are all aware of our waste disposal and energy saving processes and follow them every day. We provide suitable information and training to our employees to ensure they can make informed decisions.

All lights and appliances are switched off when an apartment is vacant. We also encourage guests to ensure lights and heating are turned off and all appliances are unplugged when they are not in the apartment. 

We offer “Homegrown Greens”, a planter filled with herbs and spices, like red pepper, for our guests to use within the suites when cooking in the kitchen. We hope to eliminate food miles and food waste.

We have replaced single-use toiletries with dispensers in each of our suites leading to a significant reduction in waste and single-use toiletries. We encourage guests to reuse towels and skip full linen changes to reduce our water usage and unnecessary chemicals from laundry.

We send guest invoices via email instead of printing for every guest. We offer online payment instead of in-house payments to reduce paper use. We’ve cut down our printing within our hotel and anything necessary to print, we recycle.
There are food waste bins in all apartments so we can add to our compost pile instead of general waste. We encourage recycling across the property and make it easy for guests and staff to do the right thing.

Plastic key cards have been eliminated from the property. We use traditional keys which guests can hold themselves or return to reception if they leave the property.
We’ve reduced signage throughout the property, cutting down on both printing and laminating. Guests are encouraged to use the QR codes throughout the property for information.

We encourage guests to leave their cars at home, instead enjoying Bristol on foot, by public transport or by using local bike hires. We’re happy to give directions or help you plan your day so you’ll have no need for a car.
