2. Balmore Walk – 30-minute walk

Another gem of Caversham, Balmore walk is a viewpoint along a steep grassy bank, overlooking the town with good views over Reading from Early to Prospect Park. The walkway is natural without much human interference, dotted with hawthorn bushes and groups of historic oak trees sheltering part of the way. There is a small woodland with plenty of benches to stop and rest or enjoy a picnic, and the northern section is mostly a hay meadow. Along the way, you may meet some of our local flora and fauna, including native flowers, birds and small critters

3. Prospect Park – 40-minute walk, 8-minute drive

Prospect Park is Readings largest green space so it goes without saying that it is a popular choice for lovers of the outdoors, especially during the summer months. The area gets its name from the fine views across the Kennet Valley and beyond. There is plenty of woodland and open green space, making it ideal for family days out or a safe place to exercise outdoors. One of the most stunning parts of the Berkshire countryside is a 20-minute drive from PREMIER SUITES in Reading – Basildon Park. As well as the 400 acres of green space, there is a stunning Georgian mansion surrounded by parkland which was once the home of Lord and Lady lliffe. The 18th-century house is owned by the National Trust and has been lovingly restored to its former beauty. Inside you can admire the splendid décor, the unusual selection of antiques and refuel with a trip to the in-house restaurant. Outside, you can explore a selection of seasonal trails, going deeper into the woodlands. It’s an ideal place for an afternoon of exploring.

At 87 miles long, the Kennet & Avon Canal walk can be as long or as short as you are able for.
