This year, more than any other, we’re seeing the benefits of supporting local. The more local producers, businesses and companies we support, the bigger the benefit to Scotland, the local community and the environment. Supporting local doesn’t just mean buying your bread and milk in the corner shop instead of a chain supermarket, it also means supporting different types of businesses that employ local workers and care about the local community, like PREMIER SUITES Glasgow. We’ve signed up for the new Scotland Loves Local Glasgow Gift Card and we hope to see plenty of local people visit as a result.
Scotland Loves Local
Local and small businesses in Scotland are being urged to sign up for the Scotland Loves Local Glasgow Gift Card. The card can only be spent with local businesses – a great way to show their support and lock money into the local economy. Glasgow City Council is delivering a significant boost to the programme this summer by sending cards pre-loaded with £105 each to more than 84,000 households. We’re hoping that some of those households use their gift voucher to indulge in a local stay in PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments in Glasgow for themselves or visiting friends and family so you can rediscover the best of our beautiful city on our doorstep.
Local Museums and Galleries
Supporting local comes in many forms. We encourage visitors to the city to make use of the many fantastic free things to see and do in Glasgow during their stay. Learn more about the history and culture of the city with a visit to one of the local museums. Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, The Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel, Glasgow Science Centre and many more major museums around the city are free to visit throughout the year. With free gardens, parks, historic buildings and events too you’ll never run out of things to do in Glasgow.
With COVID-19 restrictions forced many small independent businesses to close their doors for the past two years while large retailers remained open. This is the year we turn the tables by using our spending power to give local businesses a much-needed economic boost. Use your Scotland Loves Local gift card to buy food, drinks, crafts, gifts and home décor from small independent businesses. Aside from the obvious, you’re also helping to keep local people in employment and reducing your carbon footprint by avoiding imported and bulk-bought goods.
Keep an eye out as you wander the streets for Scotland Loves Local stickers in shop windows Take a wander down Glasgow’s Hidden Lane and you’ll uncover a quirky mix of designers and crafters. De Courcy’s Arcade on Cresswell Lane is home to a cluster of quirky boutiques, galleries and cafes.
For a unique shopping experience, take the time to explore Glasgow’s markets. They’re perfect if you’re looking for a bargain, one-of-a-kind items, or want to taste the freshest local produce. You’ll find markets to suit all tastes from delicious local food and drink to antiques and mementoes. Check out the offerings from Merchant Square Craft Market, Park Lane Market, The Barras, Farmers Market, This is Not a Boot Sale, The Glasgow Vegan Market and many more.
There are ways to support local businesses that don’t involve travel or spending a penny. You can support a local business by interacting with their social media or spreading their name and a recommendation via word of mouth. Find the local business, organisation, or community group online and give their Instagram, Facebook or TikTok a follow. Whenever they post a picture, reel or video you can support them by liking, commenting and sharing the post so their reach increases. This increases the chance that they will be found more naturally by new and potential customers. When googling a business, try not to click the AD that appears first in the Google search.
You can support PREMIER SUITES and any other Glasgow accommodation by booking your stay directly on our official website or with one of our team. This saves us admin and booking fees from the agent. To say thank you, we offer a best rate guarantee and will leave a complimentary welcome gift in your suite before you arrive.
