Queen’s Jubilee

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. To celebrate this once in a lifetime achievement of our wonderful monarch, Victoria Square Birmingham will be transformed into an open-air concert and staging area, welcoming world-class performers across four days. The event will be held from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June 2022 and will be the largest regional event to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Victoria Square is a 10-15-minute walk from our serviced apartments accommodation in Birmingham, perfect to stay close to the action while enjoying a peaceful night’s sleep.

Birmingham Celebrates The Queens Jubilee

The city is hosting a four-day extravaganza of free, family-friendly events to mark this extra special celebration. Birmingham’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be held in Victoria Square over the Bank Holiday Weekend to celebrate 70 years of our monarch on the throne. The weekend promises to bring together families, visitors, and admirers from across the country to celebrate together. Victoria Square will be adorned with a sea of Union Jacks and will include an outdoor stage hosting dozens of LIVE entertainers throughout the weekend, funfair rides for the family, food concessions, street entertainment, picnic areas and a big screen. Visitors can enjoy celebratory choirs, performers, keynote speakers and Beacon lighting daily from 12noon onwards.

Highlights Day One – 2nd June

From 5-9pm, enjoy British legend impersonators on stage, playing all of the hits that are sure to get you in the mood to party. Enjoy the music of Elton John, George Michael, UB40 and more at this family-friendly musical extravaganza.

Thursday 2nd June is also the day for lighting the Platinum Jubilee Beacons. We have a tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees Wedding & Coronations with the illuminating of beacons and landmarks and this will continue for our latest celebration. Over 1500 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and Overseas Territories in honour of our Queens 70th year and the Royal British Legion, along with school choirs will be on parade.

Highlight Day two – June 3rd

The festivities kick off on day two at 12pm with music from Matt James and Digbeth Scene. There will be musical acts right through to the evening with fantastic performances from Jam House Duelling Pianos, Platinum Jubilee Orchestra and Oomparty Brass Band who have all been practising for months to impress a lively crowd. The Steel Band will be the last act to perform on the big stage at 8pm and they promise to leave us exhilarated with their unique sound.

Highlights Day Three – June 4th

June 4th is day three and the party starts at 1pm with the brilliant Jack Gayler. If you’re hanging around for the day, you won’t want to miss Paul Anthony performing the formidable music of legend David Bowie at 5pm. Children and adults alike will love the Greatest Showman Theatrical Spectacular, performing the magical sets from the popular modern musical based loosely on the life and career of PT Barnham and his travelling circus.

From 7-11pm, the BBC are hosting and broadcasting a special live concert from Buckingham Palace that will bring together some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars to celebrate the most significant and joyous moments from The Queen’s seven-decade reign. The Platinum Jubilee National Concert will be broadcast live on the big screen from the studio in London.

Highlights Day Four – June 5th

Day four may be the final day of the official festivities but that doesn’t mean it will be any less great. Starting with Paris Georgia at 12pm and followed by some fantastic musical acts, Sunday will be a great day for families. Bring your little ones to the Theatre Workshop Stage School, quickly followed by the Schools Composition Performance. Pick up some tasty food and drink in the square and return to hear your favourite tunes by Jukeboxers Live Band Request Show from 6pm. It’s a fun day out for all of the family.
