Beauty & The Beast
King’s Theatre, one of our neighbours on Bath Street Glasgow, transforms into a French Village and an impressive beasts castle from Saturday 26 Nov to Saturday 31 Dec 2022. One of the most romantic pantos of all time, Beauty and the Beast stars pantomime legends, Elaine C Smith and Johnny Mac. It promised to be a spectacular and spellbinding production of the year. We all know the story of the beautiful Belle who finds herself trapped in a cursed enchanted castle captured by a hideous beast but this production is very different to the Disney classic with some traditional panto ‘bits’ and some topical jokes which are sure to land with the grown-ups. Tickets start at just £13 and can be purchased from their website or the venue itself.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Tron Theatre has chosen the formidable Wonderful Wizard of Oz as their panto for 2022. Even the description of this show is hilarious and we’re excited to experience this imaginative retelling in person. We’ll travel with Dorothy Blawna-Gale and her trusty dog Tronto find themselves lost in Oz. They have to embark on an array of dangerous and hilarious escapades to get home joined by a ‘scarecrow without a brain (but with 24k Insta-sham followers); a tin wummin’ without a heart (rumours that she works for the local council can’t be confirmed) and a lion who can’t help but run away from danger to the nearest fridge to hide.’ The show runs from 23rd Nov 2022 to 8th Jan 2023 so you have plenty of time to get tickets.
The Adventures of Aladdin
The Pavilion Theatre Glasgow has a panto that defies gravity in 2022. Join the star of the show Aladdin, his glamorous mother Widow Twanky and his cheeky older brother Wishee Washee on a magical adventure to defeat the Wicked Sorcerer Abanazer and his plan to become Master of the World. The all-star cast is joined by the Genie Of The Lamp, The Spirit Of The Ring and the beautiful princess Jasmine. You’ll enjoy the hilarious script, singalong songs, dazzling dance routines, stunning scenery and costumes and spectacular special effects. The show starts on Thursday 1st December 2022 until Sunday 15th Jan 2023 and promises to be one to remember.
If you’re in the mood for a real Glaswegian panto, Sleeping Betty comes to The Pearse Institute in Glasgow from 9th to 20th December 2022. Princess Betty was born with great beauty and has a wonderful christening, but the evil fairy Deadly Nightshade is pure raging at not being invited. When she finds out she seeks revenge and curses Betty to prick her finger and go to sleep. How will her friends save her? This rip-roaring comedy is a laugh a minute from start to finish and definitely won’t send the audience to sleep!
