Dinner
We have recently rediscovered a not-so-hidden gem, right in the heart of the city. If you like traditional Belgian comfort food cooked with love using tried and tested recipes that have lasted through the years, visit De Roodenhoed. Their speciality is their delicious fresh seafood dishes and as the oldest catering company in Belgium, they know have learned a lot about what customers like along the way. If the food doesn’t impress you, the opulent surroundings will.
Waffles
If you want to try a real crispy Belgian waffle, not the mass-produced version sold on stalls all over the city, you’ll have to go somewhere authentic. The Smallest Waffle Shop in the World (*actual name!) is often busy but for a very good reason. They definitely serve the best waffles in Antwerp, the only drawback is, there is no place to sit. Pick a nice day and eat your waffle al fresco.
Drinks
This one is a little further away but worth every step of the 20-minute walk. Café Au Lait is a welcoming and very fun cocktail bar where the staff are always happy to whip up one of their specialities or encourage you to try something new. It great for some mid-day refreshment or if you fancy a bit for late night antics, they open until 4am on weekends! While you’re there, try their tropical Cuba Libre for some exotic refreshment.
