Angel of the North – 10-minute drive

The Angel of the North is a contemporary sculpture located in a prominent position in Tyneside and has become a symbol of Newcastle since its erection in 1998. The steel sculpture of an angel is 20 metres tall, with wings measuring 54 metres across, symbolises the hopes and fears of our people despite having been built originally to commemorate the two centuries of coal mining in Newcastle. It’s a short drive to visit the Angel but it’s definitely one for the bucket list. You’ll also get some excellent pictures of the hill of Birtley and a Birdseye view of Tyne and Wear.

Durham– 30-minute drive

Did you know there is a certified UNESCO site just 30-minute drive from our serviced apartments in Newcastle? From Durham, carry on along the train line to York to get some stunning pictures of the cathedral from a bird’s eye view. York is another very popular destination for locals and tourists from Tyneside. The streets are an interesting mix of Medieval architecture and Viking influence. To have a true English experience York also has some of the best tea houses serving a classic English Afternoon Tea. The must-see sight during your day trip to York is the York Minster, one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe and the seat of the Archbishop of York. Other notable features are the river cruise, York Dungeon, the city wall and the excellent unique shopping.

Bamburgh Castle – 1-hour drive

Instead you’ll find a beautiful historic fortified structure, usually in a beautiful location. Bamburgh Castle is a Grade I listed building in Northumberland, an hour’s drive from our serviced apartments in Newcastle. The castle is privately owned and occupied by the ancestors of a Victorian-era entrepreneur and industrialist called William Armstrong.
