48 Hours in Glasgow

There is a feeling in Glasgow, unlike any other UK city. It’s a feeling of vibrancy, character, charm and a special Scottish welcome that’s hard to find anywhere else. You could live in Glasgow for a year and still not see and do all of the things to do here but 48 hours is a good place to start. You’ll manage a highlight reel of our Dear Green Place, dine in some of the most impressive restaurants and see some of our 90 parks and gardens on a whistlestop tour. Choosing central, comfortable accommodation in Glasgow is essential for a quick trip and PREMIER SUITES on George Square are an ideal choice. Here is our idea of a fun-packed 48 hours in Glasgow.

Day 1

Check into PREMIER SUITES Glasgow, enjoying the central location and friendly welcome. If you arrive too early for check-in, drop your bags with one of our team. Pop out to a local shop and stock up on anything you might need for your visit, stocking the fridge with your favourite drinks and snacks. Grab a quick coffee in your suite or a local coffee shop and head out to enjoy your first day in Glasgow. Get to know the city a little better by visiting some of our fantastic museums and galleries.

One of the most popular things to do in Glasgow is a visit to Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. This formidable building contains 8,000 intriguing objects and artefacts over 22 galleries; so much that you could spend an entire day exploring. Visit the galleries you’re most interested in and move on to one of the most beautiful natural places in Glasgow the Botanic Gardens. Here you can enjoy hundreds of types of flora, plant life and trees from all over Scotland and the world. Grab a bite to eat in the on-site café and enjoy lunch al fresco.

After lunch, continue your day of culture with a visit to The Riverside Museum. The building itself is one of the most striking modern buildings in Scotland and inside you’ll learn so much about the history of transport. You’ll be ready to relax after a long day of discovery so head back to your George Square apartment to freshen up. On the way, pass the iconic Duke of Wellington Monument whose been capped with a traffic cone since the 1980s despite many attempts to free him.

Enjoy some of the finest dining in Glasgow and take advantage of exclusive neighbourhood partnerships with PREMIER SUITES. Enjoy money off in Blue Lagoon Fish & Chips, 63rd & 1st or the alternative traditional cuisine in Mharsanta when you show your room key. Enjoy a couple of nightcaps in a local pub or back in your suite before bed.

Day 2

Start day 2 with a home-cooked breakfast, taking inspiration from PS life’s healthy recipes. Gear up for a day of culture and shopping, starting early to avoid the busy time. You can find all of the usual high street and high-end brands in Glasgow but we recommend searching out some more unique, independent shops and traders to find something really special. Head to Hidden Lane, The Centre for Contemporary Art, De Courcy’s Arcade on Cresswell Lane or the Scottish Design Exchange within Buchanan Galleries to pick up a very special memento of a short but sweet time spent in Glasgow. Grab a quick lunch in an independent café while you’re on the go.

After shopping and if the weather allows, take a stroll across town enjoying the magnificent architecture on every corner. It’s easy to miss some of the most beautiful buildings as they are most impressive above ground level so keep your eyes up. Head toward the People’s Palace on historic Glasgow Green, a fantastic free museum where you can learn the story of Glasgow’s people. It’s a very special museum telling the social and cultural history of our lovely city and its people.

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets to a show in one of the many theatres and stadiums in Glasgow, most are easy to commute from PREMIER SUITES serviced apartments. If not, take your time in another of our partner restaurants Glaschu, offering a modern Scottish fine dining experience. Enjoy 10% off your bill when you show your reservation. End the evening with a couple of local beers in a local pub, enjoying a warm welcome.
