Autumn is a great time to visit Glasgow. The city is busy and bustling during the summer months and again at Christmas with shoppers and tourists. Autumn is a sweet spot where the city is less packed, there are fewer queues, and you’ll always get a table in your favourite restaurant. You can also enjoy the change in season from the brightness of spring and summer to the cosy colours of autumn. There are so many things to do in Glasgow including nature walks, Guy Fawkes and Halloween events and great new spots to eat and drink. Book your stay in our serviced apartment accommodation in Glasgow and enjoy the city on our doorstep.

Fawkes Festival

Guy Fawkes Day falls on 5th November and is usually marked by spectacular fireworks displays. Kilmarnock’s Dean Castle Country Park, about 30 minutes from our Bath Street serviced apartments, are set to host a fireworks spooktacular event this autumn combining Halloween and Guy Fawkes night in one. Fawkes Festival is a series of professional firework spectaculars and immersive light-laser-sound extravaganzas running from 28th October to 5th November. Suitable for all of the family, you can expect entertainment, fairground rides, food and drink and a choreographed performance, all within the beautiful estates, castle grounds and parkland. Tickets for adults cost £15, it’s £10 for children and under 3s go free. It promises to be a festival to remember.

Halloween in Glasgow

Did you know Halloween has Celtic roots? Halloween was first celebrated in Ireland at a festival called Samhain, a night marking the end of summer and the coming of winter where the veil between this world and the next is weakest. In Glasgow, there are all sorts of Halloween celebrations to enjoy ranging from crafts and markets to scary walks and history lessons. Katies Bar in Glasgow has a Witch Market which promises a magical afternoon out on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th of October. August House is showing Halloween classic Hocus Pocus on October 4th. The Craft Pottery Studio have a workshop to craft your very own black clay cauldron, ideal for budding witches and wizards. For more mature Halloween fans, Tenement House on Glasgow’s West End has a hair-raising performance in the gas-lit parlour telling us more about the ghosts of the tenements.

Glasgow Necropolis

The Necropolis is beautiful all year round. It’s a peaceful space for a walk, a picnic and a place to learn about its residents & the history of the city. Autumn is a really special time to visit and witness the change in season for yourself. Within the 37-acre cemetery, you’ll find wonderful architecture, sculptures and fascinating stories of 50,000 people remembered here. In Autumn, all of that is complimented by autumn colours, falling leaves and the richness of the season. Head to the top of the beautiful Victorian garden cemetery for panoramic views, which take in the medieval Glasgow Cathedral. The Glasgow Necropolis is perfect for an autumn walk with history and beauty all around.

Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Another great place to spend some time outdoors in Glasgow is the Botanic Gardens. Take in two of the city’s most beautiful parks and one of the UK’s coolest neighbourhoods in an easy riverside walk. Starting in Kelvingrove Park, take time to admire two of the city’s best-known buildings, the University of Glasgow and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
