Top Reasons Why Rotterdam Is Considered the Architecture City of The Netherlands

When you are traveling to Rotterdam, there are some monuments that should not be missed. A lot of buildings were bombed during the 2nd World War, that is why Rotterdam is completely rebuilt. But there are a few places where you can still find architecture from before 1940. Besides that, there are also many new buildings. We created a top 5 with architecture hotspots of Rotterdam.

The Market Hall

The market hall opened in 2014. This new architecture icon in Rotterdam brings a large fresh market, pop up restaurants, a supermarket and apartments. It is also possible to park your car in the parking garage under the building. The inner facade of the Market hall is covered with a large painting. It is definitely worthwhile to take some nice pictures.

The Cube Houses

Just next to the market hall you will find the Cube houses. The 38 cubes form a kind of forest and that is why they call it the Blaakse forest. This architecture was finished in 1982 by the famous architect Piet Blom. If you would like to know how it looks like from the inside, you can book a tour on the website.

The Erasmus Bridge

The 800-meter long Erasmus Bridge crosses the Maas River and links the northern and southern parts of Rotterdam. The bridge opened for citizens in 1996. The suspension bridge has a 139-meter high steel pylon, which is secured with 40 cables. The shape of the pylon gave the bridge its nickname, The Swan.

The Euromast

The Euromast was built in 1960 to mark the occasion of the very first edition of the Floriade, the international flower and garden exhibition, which took place in Rotterdam. Nowadays there is a restaurant for lunch and dinner.

Rotterdam central station

The new Central Station, opened in 2014 by King Willem Alexander in Rotterdam, has the striking shape of the new station hall. This is really an eye-catcher and forms the new entrance of the city. Inside and around the building there are multiple bars and restaurants to have a cup of coffee with a beautiful view.

From the central station it is a 2 minutes’ walk to PREMIER SUITES PLUS Rotterdam. When you spend the night with us it is possible you wake up with the view of the central station and the city. Book direct for discounts and perks you won’t get on any other website.
