Book your stay in PREMIER SUITES Serviced Apartments in Amsterdam to explore Amsterdam while the sun shines, enjoying some of the best things to do here.

City Beaches

Did you know that Amsterdam has city beaches? From revamped industrial estates to chilled-out beach clubs, Amsterdam offers a great selection of places to feel the sand between your toes without having to leave the city. Pllek is a short boat ride from Central Station, It’s a hip waterfront bar with an urban beach and great views over the water. South of the city centre, StrandZuid is an inland urban beach which surrounds a lake. There is plenty of space to sunbathe or grab a drink after the sun goes down. Het Stenen Hoofd is not technically an urban beach but a pier that juts out into the IJ. The pier is covered with sand and grass and often hosts the city’s cultural events like the Pluk de Nacht open-air film screenings.

Floating Flower Market

Summer is the best time for flowers. All of the brightest and most beautiful flowers bloom in warmer weather and the best place to see them for yourself is the Amsterdam floating flower market. Bloemenmarkt is the world’s only floating flower market. It’s made up of a series of houseboat greenhouses located on the Singel Canal Koningsplein and the Muntplein and has been here since 1862. Although the market is better known for selling bulbs, seeds and cute souvenirs than actual flowers, it is still one of the most colourful and fragrant places in the city. If you want to see some of the postcard-worthy tulip fields in Amsterdam you’ll need to venture about 40kms outside of the city to the wonderful Keukenhof Tulip Gardens.

Enjoy a Sightseeing Bike Ride

A novel way to explore the city and feel the wind in your hair on a hot day is a bike ride around Amsterdam. The city is completely bike-friendly, and bicycles outnumber cars in many areas. There are bike routes to take you to the busy tourist attractions, the local parks or for some leisurely exploring. In fact, there are around 515km (320 miles) of dedicated cycle lanes, and we’re rated as the second most bike-friendly city in the world! One of the most popular routes is a 27km ride along the Amstel River, checking out the waterside houses and houseboats. You can get lost in a local forest or cycle past castles and lakes, depending on your route.

Cruise Amsterdam’s Canals

It wouldn’t be a trip to Amsterdam without stepping foot on the canal, especially when the sun is shining. There are many types of cruises to choose from, from party boats to evening cruises, there is something for all tastes. Explore the city, its culture, historic trading history and famous landmarks from a unique vantage point on the water. Many of the cruises have bars on board with snacks and nibbles, ideal to enjoy a summer afternoon with a glass of wine or a local beer. In the evenings, enjoy a booze cruise, taking in the sights illuminated by the moon, the perfect end to a great day.

Museums for all Weather

One of the main reasons to visit Amsterdam is the fantastic museum culture. Whether you want to bask in the sunshine admiring the flowers in the Hortus Botanicus Gardens or take refuge from the sun in the fantastic Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam has a museum for you. Catch the train to the Zaanse Schans to see how clogs, cheese and stroopwafels are made and admire the windmills or head to the sculpture garden of Singer Laren to enjoy this private art collection, including expressionism and cubism exhibits. You could even swing from the top of the A’Dam Tower if you’re feeling brave! If you’re planning a day of museum hopping, a city card will come in handy and save you money.
