Top 5 Cultural Attractions in Glasgow Every Visitor Must See!

If you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary on your trip to Scotland, Glasgow’s cultural attractions are second to none. As with many ‘second cities’ we are the cooler, hipper alternative to Edinburgh with a million things to see and do to keep you busy. Many of our best cultural attractions are close to your ideal serviced apartments in Glasgow, PREMIER SUITES. Here are our pick of some of the best things to do in Glasgow:

Mural Tour:

If you’re out and about on the streets of Glasgow, you’ll notice some of the massive, magnificent works of art adorning the sides of buildings across the city. Forget the usual bus tours with generic descriptions of historic events, the mural tour is a self-guided or guide-led walking trail taking you through Glasgow’s modern art and mural culture which has become a huge feature of the city in recent times. The artistic talent of our residents is obvious and many of the murals have a meaningful story behind them. A couple of the gorgeous murals are just minutes’ walk from your aparthotel in Glasgow.

Glasgow Necropolis:

It might sound unusual to some but one of Glasgow’s biggest and most popular attractions is a graveyard! The Glasgow Necropolis lies to the east of Glasgow Cathedral on a hill, giving you beautiful views across the city. There are walking tours throughout the year telling you some fascinating history of the site and some of it’s many ‘residents’. An enormous amount of people have been buried in the Glasgow Necropolis, over 50,000 call it their final resting place. You’ll experience the peaceful and serene surroundings when strolling through and if you’re lucky you’ll see some of the native wildlife enjoying it as much as you.

GoMA:

When we think of museums, we conjure up images of ancient paintings of people we’ve never met and piles of dusty books. GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art) could not be further from a ‘traditional’ museum, although the building might fool you. Inside, four galleries display a huge range of modern and contemporary art using a variety of mediums; light, sound, paint, film and other non-traditional materials. They aim to make art accessible to all and inspire new ideas about what it means to be alive.

Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre:

While it may seem out of place in typically industrial Glasgow, Sharmanka is an exciting, enigmatic theatre exhibition. Hundreds of carved figures and old pieces of scrap move in synchronicity, performing haunting choreography to help tell the story of what it means to be human. Just like real life, the stories played out can be tragic or comic and deal with the stories behind life and death. The show is suitable for all ages and promises to be a performance you won’t forget.

King Tuts Wah Wah Hut:

While it’s hardly a historic building containing ancient artifacts, King Tut’s has had a profound impact on Glasgow’s music and nightlife scene and continues to do so. Glasgow is a UNESCO City of Music and has many fantastic live music spots to explore but much like the Cavern Club in Liverpool, it has become iconic and idolised local institutions. Not only do they specialise in giving up and coming bands a chance on the big stage, they also gave many well-known bands a platform for their very first Scottish gig. Oasis, The Verve, Radio Head, The White Stripes and Beck are just a few.

These are just the tip of the iceberg of things to do in Glasgow, you’ll have to visit and explore the rest for yourself. If you’re looking for the best value on accommodation, stay away from overpriced hotels. Choosing a serviced apartment in Glasgow means you get more space, a fantastic location ideal for exploring Glasgow’s cultural attractions and access to our exclusive special offers that are only available when you book direct.
