The Winter Show Glasgow

From Thursday 16th November until Wednesday 31st January 2024, Compass Gallery is a winter wonderland. The winter show is a free exhibition of some of the finest art in Scotland. Every year this carefully curated collection is displayed, delighting art lovers who come from near and far for this very special show. The variety in this year’s Winter Show is as great as ever. Admire the wide selection of original paintings, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics, which they continue to add to throughout November, December and January. We look forward to exploring the talent of local and international artists at this unique show.

Winter in Glasgow

Winter is one of the most magical seasons in Glasgow. The city is illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights, happy shoppers bustle through the streets and the atmosphere is warm, despite the cold weather. There are just as many things to do in Glasgow in winter as at any other time of the year. Winter walks are made so much more special with the addition of Christmas lights and decorated trees. Make sure to visit Princes Square which has lots going on during the festive period starting with the switch-on of their Christmas lights on 19th November. George Square Christmas lights start on the 20th of November and the Christmas market is nearby.

Winter Walks in Glasgow

Just because the trees are bare doesn’t mean the parks in Glasgow aren’t beautiful. There is nothing more peaceful than a winter walk, admiring the change in the season. Wrap up well, grab a coffee from a local independent coffee shop and take a stroll through one of Glasgow’s 90 parks. Explore the grounds of the University of Strathclyde, visit the beautiful Glasgow Necropolis, and explore the wonderful Kelvingrove Park with its art gallery and museum. It’s a great activity to fill a couple of hours during the day or to walk off a great lunch in one of Glasgow’s cafés, bars and restaurants.

Shopping in Glasgow

Shopping, especially Christmas shopping, in Glasgow is an experience you’ll love. We have everything you could hope for with high-end brand names rubbing shoulders with high-street favourites and a whole lot of choice. At Christmas it’s extra special with lots of festive markets. George Square has the biggest market but you’ll find dozens of pop-up markets with unusual and unique gift ideas you’d never find on the high street. Visit the Country Living Christmas Fair (16-19 November) or the House for an Art Lover Christmas Fayre (26 November). Glasgow Style Mile Christmas Carnival happens on the 26th of November and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum have a pop-up market on Dec 2nd & 3rd.

Dining in Glasgow

The weather may not always be on our side, but it never rains in the pub! One of the things we are most famous for is our pub culture, a friendly, welcoming and fun scene that welcomes everyone. We have 223 pubs in Glasgow ranging from traditional watering holes to fancy cocktail bars. Glasgow also has one of the most diverse culinary scenes in the UK and we are proud of the variety of cultures and cuisines represented here. Our central location on Bath Street is surrounded by dozens of excellent places to eat. We recommend Café Antipasti, Thai Siam, Sichuan House, Oran Mor and The brilliant Blue Lagoon for traditional fish & chips. Enjoy a cosy night in with a takeaway from a local restaurant or head out to explore the city.

Enjoy Winter in Glasgow this year when you book accommodation in PREMIER SUITES Glasgow Bath Street. We guarantee to be £15 per night cheaper when you book direct and we’ll leave a special gift in your room as an extra thank you.
