The Best Gluten-free and Vegan Restaurants in Antwerp

Antwerp is a very cool, vibrant city with so much to see and do. Our population contains people from all walks of life & cultures and our food scene reflects this diversity. Our restaurants, cafes, bars, and markets around the city cater to all diets and restrictions, and everyone can find an option that suits them on almost every menu. Celiacs and vegans are well catered for with dedicated restaurants and menu options for both. Check out some of the best gluten-free and vegan restaurants and cafes close to our serviced apartments in Antwerp.

Eugene Gluten-Free Bakery – 25 minutes walk

Technically not a restaurant, but definitely one for everyone’s list in Antwerp, whether gluten-free or not. Eugenes Gluten Free Bakery produces the best bread, cakes, biscuits, bakes, sweets and so much more, prepared in a totally safe environment for celiacs.  An absolute must if you are visiting Antwerp and the perfect spot for picking up picnic supplies. Pick up some of their delicious bakes and take them back to your suite to enjoy in front of the TV as a treat.

22b Restaurant – 20 minutes walk

Originally a B&B, 22B is an excellent choice for lunch and they have options for many specific diets. They offer various gluten-free menu items and the kitchen team takes extra care to avoid cross-contamination, but it cannot be guaranteed. They also cater to lactose-free, dairy-free and vegan diets. Their breakfast ranges from a quick coffee and pastry to a delicious and filling meal. Lunch has a selection of hot and cold items, and everything is available to sit in or take away. They have excellent sandwich options available on gluten-free bread and their soups are delicious.

Falafel Tof – 20 minutes walk

Another great spot for veggies, vegans and celiacs, Falafel Tof is a trendy café that does what its title hints at. The menu focuses on ethically and locally sourced ingredients where possible and they handmake their delicious falafel in-house. There is an extensive menu of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes which include salad, falafel, wraps and healthy drinks. Everything is gluten-free apart from the bread, but you can have the delicious falafel with salad. They have lunch and dinner options and it’s a cheap and healthy option, close to our serviced apartments.

Frites Atelier – 15 minutes walk

Did you know that French fries are gluten-free and vegan? If you’re a fan, you need to check our Frites Atelier in Antwerp, a short walk from our serviced apartments near the central train station. They offer some mouthwatering Belgian fries with delicious flavours and toppings. The fries have a dedicated frier so there is little chance of cross-contamination. They’re a good option as a salty evening snack after a couple of gluten-free beers. You can pair your fries with a surprisingly excellent range of beers and cocktails and make it an experience.

De Broers van Julienne – 20 minutes walk

Translated to “the brothers of Julienne” this restaurant is an excellent option for lunch or dinner with two locations in the city. They have a great selection of both vegan and vegetarian dishes, without compromising on flavour or quality. The diner meets grocery store vibe is complimented by an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy mezze, soup, salad, quiche and much more. The menu is completely vegetarian and/or vegan and they even offer vegan cookery courses to those interested.

Satay – 15 minutes’ walk

Satay’s vibe and cuisine is inspired by the famous Southeast Asian street food scene, combined with flavours found closer to home. Much cuisine in Southeast Asia is inspired by the flavours of the season and meat was not essential at every meal. The menu is a mixture of carnivore and herbivore dishes, neither compromising on taste nor attention to detail. There are vegan options for every course including tofu and pineapple bowl, spring onion dumplings and delicious vegan mango rice for dessert. Celiacs are also welcome. Book a table in this popular spot if you plan to visit.

If you’d prefer you can make use of the in-house kitchen and dining space and prepare your own vegan or gluten-free meals in the comfort of your home from home. Book your stay in our comfortable serviced apartments in Antwerp on our website to enjoy our best available rates, guaranteed.
