Origins Experiences at The 152nd Open

A round of golf is one of the best things to do on your trip to Glasgow. Golf’s oldest major returns to Scotland’s Ayrshire Coast at Royal Troon Golf Club in 2024. Next year will mark The Open’s 152nd year and the tenth time that Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland’s Ayrshire coast has hosted the event. We see a huge increase in tourism around the time of the open, especially those looking for high-quality, convenient serviced apartment accommodation in Glasgow. PREMIER SUITES Glasgow is located on Bath Street, a 35-minute drive to the excellent Royal Troon course. Contact us for our lowest available rates, guaranteed.

The 152nd Open

The competition, previously known as The British Open, was first hosted in 1860 at the Prestwick Golf Club in Prestwick, South Ayrshire. The open takes place every year on different courses and the last time Royal Troon was the host was in 2016, won by Henrik Stenson in stunning fashion. In what will be the 152nd Open Championship, the world’s best golfers will once more head to the spectacular Ayrshire coastline to see if they can challenge for golf’s oldest Major and repeat the feat of 2016. The winner of The 150th Open at St Andrews received 2.5 million USD in prize money and although next year’s total has not been announced it’s expected to be a substantial sum. There is nothing like the atmosphere of watching the masters in action so start planning your trip in July 2024.

Royal Troon

Royal Troon’s Old Course was founded in 1878 and is one of the most formidable and challenging rounds of golf in Scotland to this day. The course expanded to 18 holes 10 years later and was re-designed by Champion Golfer James Braid ahead of its first Open in 1923 when it first started to gain notoriety within the golf community. Designed in a traditional out-and-back manner Troon’s course begins with a gentle opening through beautiful links land and concludes with a back nine as tough as any finish in the world. The two course record holders are currently Greg Norman and Tiger Woods. Royal Troon Golf Club remains the first and the last club in Great Britain to have been granted royal status under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The latest Open held in Troon concluded when Henrik Stenson prevailed in an exciting duel with Phil Mickelson in 2016.
