Have a magical Christmas this year with a visit to Reading. The city lights up at this time of the year and fills with the sights, sounds and smells of Christmas, all the way up to the New Year and beyond. If you are planning a trip, make sure to check out our list of must-do’s!
Instead of buying the usual socks for dad and scarf for Mum, this year hunt for something very special and unique to make it a gift they won’t forget in a hurry. In the Madejski Stadium this year, the Christmas Cheer Fair is taking place which holds over 65 hand-picked stalls and shops selling the most unusual and wonderful gift ideas including food, art and crafts. The entrance fee will make up part of a donation raising vital funds for Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
Christmas just isn’t the same without a good ‘ol fashioned Panto (oh no it isn’t’!!) and this year the Hexagon have something special planned. They are putting on a hilarious and fun-filled rendition of Aladdin, complete with Jasmine, Genie and evil Abanazar. Everything from the sets, the fantastic singing & dancing and the clever script will have you and your little ones delighted for weeks to come. It starts on the 8th of December and runs all the way to the 6th of January and stars children’s favourite, CBeebees star Justin Fletcher.
If you would prefer to celebrate Christmas in a more traditional way, make sure you catch one of the many carol services taking place around the city this November and December. We love the mixture of traditional carols and modern Christmas music and it really fills us with Christmas cheer when the streets fill with jingle bells! There are a great variety of events on, from lunchtime singalongs to full orchestral services, it would be a pity to miss a great opportunity to hear Readings finest singers.
