24 hours in Amsterdam

If you only have one day to spend in Amsterdam, you’d better move fast! You’d be surprised how much of our compact city you can see in just 24-hours, taking in some of the most popular tourist attractions, best places to eat and experiencing the legendary Amsterdam nightlife all at once. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and start your day from PREMIER SUITES aparthotel in Amsterdam.

Breakfast

You won’t go far without a coffee and a full belly so make sure you stock up on breakfast food. Each of our luxurious suites has a fully equipped kitchen as standard including a fridge, oven and microwave. Whether you like a light bowl of cereal or a hearty cooked breakfast, anything is possible here. Most importantly, our suites come with your very own Nespresso Machine as standard so you can get your fix before you go.

Canal Cruise

If you want to get the lay of the land from a very different perspective than a regular tour bus, you should hop on one of the many canal cruises. Not only do they show you where the hottest spots are from the water, you’ll also learn some of the city’s history from a knowledgeable and experienced local guide. Best of all, it only takes an hour and you can hop on and off as you please.

Soak up the culture

To finish off your morning, head to the Van Gogh Museum on Museum Square. The museum is dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries in Amsterdam, teaching you about the life and techniques of this very unique and renowned artist. Be careful, the museum is large, and you could get immersed for hours in the wonderful artwork. To save time, buy your tickets for the museum – and most Amsterdam attractions – in advance so you can skip the queues.

Lunch on the go

Amsterdam is truly a dining out paradise, with something on the menu for everyone. For lunch, a great way to save time is to eat on the go instead of wasting time in a café. Visit the food hall at De Hallen – a former tram depot in the newly hip Oud West neighbourhood. This wonderful artisan food hall serves up a great selection of drinks and street food from some of Amsterdam’s best loved independent establishments. We recommend a cone of chips & mayo or a local favourite bitterballen, a small meaty snack usually washed down with biertje (beer).

Shopping in Amsterdam

While we do have one of the most impressive high streets in Europe, you’ll find mostly the usual high street brands that you’ll find anywhere. Instead, take a trip to one of our 12 daily outdoor markets, 15 weekly markets and several seasonal markets, depending on the time of year. Amsterdam’s Bloemenmarkt (flower market) on the Singel canal is a favourite spot to photograph all year round but especially in Spring when it is filled with vibrant tulips. the Waterlooplein Flea Market is great for vintage bits, art and mementos and is one of the few markets in Amsterdam where haggling is commonplace.

Dinner in Amsterdam

After a long day of exploring the city, you’ll need a good meal to refuel. When in Amsterdam, do as the Dutch and enjoy some traditional Dutch food. No matter where you go in the world you are, mothers cooking is always the best. That’s why we love Moeders (“mothers” in Dutch), a restaurant in the city centre that serves only the most traditional Dutch dishes. All of our family favourites are on the menu and you can even hang a picture of your own mum on the wall if you’re feeling homesick!

Amsterdam’s nightlife

We have a global reputation as a party city and the city really comes to life in the evening. There is always something exciting going on after dark. If you like live music, try Paradiso or Bitterzoet. Clubs like Escape and Jimmy Woo have excellent reputations and go on until the very early hours and the city’s brilliant LGBTQ scene always makes for a colourful night out. Be safe when partying in Amsterdam, or anywhere in the world, minding yourself, your drinks and your belongings.
