4 Best Traditional British Restaurants in Bristol

Why do you visit the UK? Many people want to learn more about our proud monarchy or military history. Do you want to mark some famous landmarks and museums off your bucket list? Maybe trying some traditional British cuisine is at the top of your list. Our aparthotel in Bristol is ideally located close to many quality restaurants and attractions, perfect for any sightseeing trip. We have put together a list of the best places to find traditional British food in Bristol so you can focus on enjoying the best of the city.

1. Fish & Chips

A true British favourite by all accounts, fish and chips is a meal traditionally enjoyed by the sea but as Bristol is inland, the River Avon will have to do! The Cottage Inn is one of the best-located pubs in town, and just 15 mins by bus from our serviced apartments Bristol. Here you can enjoy all manner of British food, but they specialise in locally caught fish. It’s the ideal place to enjoy some great food, local ale and view across the river watching the ferries, windsurfers and paddle boarders go by.

If you fancy something a little more casual and closer to your home from home, Salt & Malt’s Chew Valley shop is just 15-minutes’ walk away. Their award-winning, locally caught and sustainably fished meals have been shortlisted for the Fish & Chip restaurant of the year awards. They placed in the top 20 in the entire UK!

2. Pies

Whether you prefer veggie pies, meaty pies or pies with something a little out of the ordinary, Bristol has it all. For a quick, quality and reasonably priced pie on the move, Pieminister is a chain famous for its delicious creations across the UK. For something a little more local, head to The Stable. Better known for its great pizzas, they also have five quality pies on offer, each served with herb-roasted potatoes, pickled onion and tomato chutney. Try the ‘Get My Goat’ pie for something very different from the usual Steak and Onion.

3. Full English Breakfast

Although it has been emulated all over the world, having a Full English in the UK with delicious British produce is second to none. There are many variations, but most include bacon, sausage, black pudding, toast, tomato, fried potatoes and don’t forget the baked beans! If you want to start your day with a full stomach visit The Bristolian Café for your morning meal. It’s just 20-minutes walking from our aparthotel in Bristol and worth every step. They have a great range of breakfast options from vegan & veggie to Full English and the huge Bristolian Challenge.

4. Sunday Dinner

Sunday dinner is so-called as it is traditionally enjoyed on a Sunday but when in the UK you can enjoy a roast any day of the week! 1766 Restaurant is part of Bristol Old Vic pub and serves delicious food and local drinks. You can enjoy a Sunday Roast with a choice of three meats, accompanied by a mountain of veg and garlic roast potatoes. Most importantly of all, they serve the most delicious Yorkshire Puds and gravy we’ve ever tried! They have a great range of desserts to try while you’re there, our personal favourite is the classic Marshfield ice cream & crushed meringue.
