Markets<\/h2>

The markets in Amsterdam are a highlight of any trip. You\u2019ll find everything from flowers and fruit to clothes and cosmetics in various markets dotted across the city. Almost every neighbourhood in Amsterdam has its own market, where you\u2019ll find local, unique food, crafts and gifts. The Albert Cuypmarkt<\/a>, Dappermarkt<\/a> and Ten Katemarktare<\/a> open on Friday and Saturday, while the organic markets at the Noordermarkt and Nieuwmarkt are open on Saturday.<\/p>

Vondelpark<\/h2>

Commonly known as Amsterdam\u2019s playground, Vondelpark<\/a> is the perfect way to spend a free afternoon in Amsterdam. Central to the heart of the city, the park is a green oasis of both calm and excitement. If you\u2019re visiting during the summer, there are free open-air concerts and events throughout the summer months. Even in the colder months, there is always something happening in the park, well worth your time visiting.<\/p>

Ferries<\/h2>

Amsterdam is known for its river and bridges. Some parts of the city are easier to access by ferry than by bike or walking. Amsterdam has free ferries operating from behind Amsterdam Centraal, the main train station. Look out for the white and blue GVB ferries travelling across the IJ River. These ferries can take you to some of the areas not accessible by the mainland.<\/p>

By far, the most popular route is to Buiksloterweg, this is where the iconic A\u2019DAM building and Heineken Experience are. The port area is often decorated to match the time of year too! Another route takes you north-western, visiting the more industrial area of the city. The final route takes you to the NDSM wharf area. Once a dockyard-turned-cultural hotspot. It is currently a thriving new area in the city, sure to be a hugely popular area in the years to come. It is often used for festivals, street art and flea markets.<\/p>

Amsterdam Central Library<\/h2>

Now a library<\/a> may not be the first thing to think of when it comes to holidays, but this one is a sight to behold. It is ten storeys tall holding books, international newspapers, exhibitions, magazines and even a children\u2019s library. As it is the second-largest library in Europe, Amsterdam\u2019s Central Library is surely worth a visit.<\/p>

Rijksmuseum Gardens<\/h2>

Although you do need to pay for a ticket to the Rijksmuseum<\/a>, the gardens are surrounding area is beautiful, and better yet, free! The home of Dutch masterpieces, including Remembrandt, has an amazing garden and water fountain. It\u2019s always bustling with street performers and entertainers, especially in the summer months. Each year, they choose an emerging artist to promote in the garden, placing their works to be seen by the public throughout the area.<\/p>
