John comes to us with plenty of experience in the industry having worked in and around hotels for many years. We’ve asked John some questions to find out what makes him tick. Where were you born? Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland
Where have you lived? Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Portsmouth, Swindon, Swansea, London, St Andrews, Glasgow, Edinburgh
What is your favourite travel destination? Monaco
Are you a sports fan? If so, what is your favourite team? Scotland in whichever sport they are playing.
What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working? Playing golf or taking our cocker spaniel for a long walk.
What are some causes you care about? We raised funds for Radio Lollipop (children’s hospital radio that provides games & entertainment etc for sick children whilst in hospital) – donations were made from furniture taken from old apartments. We also donated furniture to Edinburgh re-homing charities, Christian Aid & Afghan/Ukrainian refugees.
What do you do with friends in your spare time? Golf (very badly)

Why do you like your job? Great place to work with different challenges each day and Edinburgh is a great city to live in.
How would you describe your career in a few words? Long and varied.
What are some accomplishments you’ve achieved during your career? Hotel of the Year with Marriott Team of the Year award from ASAP for Fountain Court and winner of Outstanding Achievement award with Premier Inn
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of? Winning UK Hotel of the Year at the Aberdeen Marriott where I was General Manager
What is your favourite thing about your career or industry? The people I have worked with.
If you could give a younger person career advice, what would it be? Work hard and be committed.
What is your favourite memory from your career so far? Being introduced to Nelson Mandela at the Old Course Hotel, St Andrews.
What are you looking excited about in the future? New opening of PREMIER SUITES Edinburgh in May.
