Der Glasgow Art Club wurde 1867 von dem jungen Amateurk\u00fcnstler William Dennistoun gegr\u00fcndet und hat seit 1893 seinen Sitz in der Bath Street. Das Geb\u00e4ude bietet einen eleganten und ungew\u00f6hnlichen Rahmen f\u00fcr ein formelles Abendessen, eine Sitzung oder einen Hochzeitsempfang f\u00fcr bis zu 100 Personen.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>Die Geschichte des Glasgow Art Club<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nachdem eine Krankheit ihn gezwungen hatte, die Stadt Glasgow zu verlassen, fuhren die Freunde von William Dennistoun zu seinem Haus im l\u00e4ndlichen Old Kilpatrick, um dort gemeinsam zu zeichnen und zu malen. Dennistoun schlug vor, einen Kunstclub zu gr\u00fcnden, und er und 10 seiner Freunde gr\u00fcndeten den Club im Waverley Temperance Hotel in der Buchanan Street. Bei den monatlichen Treffen brachte jedes Mitglied ein Bild mit und die anderen kommentierten es, was zu Diskussionen und - typisch f\u00fcr leidenschaftliche K\u00fcnstler - zu Streitigkeiten f\u00fchrte.  Der Club zog von Ort zu Ort, bis er 1878 in den Bothwell Circus 62 umzog. Der dringende Bedarf an Geld zwang die K\u00fcnstler, Laien aufzunehmen, obwohl Frauen bis 1983 warten mussten. Um all die Neuank\u00f6mmlinge unterzubringen, mietete der Club ein neues Haus in der 151 Bath Street, wo es jedoch bald eng wurde.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h2>185 Bath Stra\u00dfe<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">F\u00fcr den Glasgow Art Club war es an der Zeit, ein eigenes Haus zu kaufen. Im Jahr 1893 erwarb der Club die benachbarten Stadth\u00e4user in der Bath Street. John Keppie, ein Mitglied des Clubs, wurde mit der Restaurierung und dem Umbau der H\u00e4user beauftragt und richtete in den kleinen G\u00e4rten eine angrenzende Galerie ein. Es gibt neuere Belege daf\u00fcr, dass der junge Charles Rennie Mackintosh bei der Auswahl einiger ornamentaler Details der Galerie einen Einfluss hatte. Der Club war bereit zur Er\u00f6ffnung und wurde im Laufe seiner fast 130-j\u00e4hrigen Geschichte zum Schauplatz unz\u00e4hliger Abendessen, Tanzveranstaltungen, Konzerte, Vortr\u00e4ge und Ausstellungen. Die Galerie wurde vollst\u00e4ndig renoviert, einschlie\u00dflich der Wiederherstellung des Charles Rennie Mackintosh-Frieses, der heute eine der Hauptattraktionen f\u00fcr Besucher ist.
